Advice and Safety Equipment for Families with Children Aged 0-5

Luton ‘Safe at Home’ is a child accident prevention service delivered through a local multi-agency partnership led by Flying Start & Bedfordshire Pre-School Learning Alliance in association with Public Health and Bedfordshire Fire & Rescue Service.  The scheme provides a FREE service for families in Luton who are pregnant or have young children under the age of five.

COVID-19 UPDATE

Currently Safe at Home are offering alternative services due to COVID-19 status and the restrictions in place. Safe at Home have suspended certain services and are unable to complete home visits at this time meaning we are unable to install child safety equipment, however once restrictions are lifted we will be in contact with you to arrange a home visit for installation of child safety equipment.

We are still taking applications at this time and encourage families to apply online during this period, someone will then be in touch to discuss our current offers once your application has been submitted.

Please note the services we are able to offer at present:

Telephone Helpline for families with children of all ages
Telephone helpline for parents with children of all ages available from Monday to Friday, between 12 to 4pm. This allows parents the opportunity to have an informal chat with our child safety expert about how to keep their family safe and injury free whilst at home.

Telephone Home Safety Assessments 0-5’s
A trained safety advisor will talk through a room-by-room safety questionnaire over the phone with parents covering each area of the home and the advisor will provide the relevant safety advice to help reduce the risk of accidental injury to under 5’s.  A copy of the completed questionnaire is then emailed to the parent, enabling parent to make the recommended changes within the home environment. If you are entitled to free equipment fitting, once you have received your Telephone Home Safety Assessment, when restrictions are lifted we will contact you to arrange the installation of your recommended child safety equipment.

Keeping Baby Safe Telephone consultations for families who are expecting a baby
For families living in Luton who are expecting a baby in 2020/2021 we are offering a 1-1 Telephone Consultation in place of the workshop to share and talk through vital information with parents-to-be. Expectant parents can gain awareness of  the Tubes of Life programme and importance of choosing safe and compliant nursery products and offers an ideal opportunity for parents to ask questions and discuss any nursery product queries prior to purchasing goods, plus each family will receive a free complimentary gift bag which is dropped off to their doorway.
